Hair's The Thing: Spring Fling!
Proms, weddings, and all the events we love to enjoy. Can you believe it's spring?
I'm noticing a trend with these special moments: proms are now being treated like pre-weddings. Guests bring their mothers, friends, that's no surprise. What's new is guests are setting up trials before their final hair and make-up appointments to put their final looks together, just like brides.
Prom is now a trial itself for a future wedding, a primer for that big step down the road. In that spirit, here are some tips for your upcoming life moments and memories!
Here Comes The Bride: What an exciting time in your life! There are plenty of decisions to make right from the start when choosing your perfect hair stylist and make-up artist. As soon as you say "Yes" and secure your date, I really recommend you book your hair and make-up artist right away.
One of your first steps on that journey must be to seek stylists with a strong bridal portfolio, or strong recommendation from a loved one or wedding planner you trust. Next up is getting a quote within your budget and to check their availability. I can't stress enough to start looking right after you have booked your day. Ideally you will have your hair stylists and make-up artists booked 6 months to a year in advance. If there is a specific stylist you have in mind, book them as soon as you know your wedding day.
When choosing a mobile team, you can have a preliminary consultation by phone when booking the day. Send pictures of looks you love so you're on the same page. Strong communication is most important to feel assured you have chosen the right team for you and your wedding party.
For the consultation and bridal trial, plan it 4-6 weeks out from your wedding day. Meet with your hair stylist and make-up artist on the same day so you can get the best idea of your ideal complete look.
Things to bring with you on your trial:
Pictures of you in your dress
Veil
Hair ornaments
Support (Mom, Sister, Bridesmaids)
Wear a white top similar to the cut of your dress
As a stylist, I ask:
What are your expectations?
How do you feel in your dress? (Classic, Vintage, a Disney Princess, Modern, or Celebrity Styled)
Thing to ask your stylist:
Do I have clean, washed hair for the day?
Do I need extensions to create more thickness and body?
Do I cut/color my hair or just trim it, and how close to the day?
Do I get a smoothing treatment and how soon before the wedding?
