Hair's The Thing: Jumping Jeez It's June!

In fact, it's nearly July!

Hair's the thing: as we jump into June with July on the horizon, those special events like weddings, graduations, and outdoor festivities are in full swing. Plus, we're fresh off Father's Day. So, let's celebrate the men in our lives!

For the male guests in my chair, I pay extra attention to his needs--having an in-depth conversation on how his hair has been growing out, how to maintain his hair when it's at his 3-4 week grow-out, and what products to use at this time. After the shampoo, cut, and style, I show him how he can go couture, or rock a more casual 'do. They love this and to challenge me to show them different looks. Men's hair doesn't have to be repetitive or plain!

And don't forget the facial hair: my male guests who have a beard, moustache, sideburns, or all of the above, I'll be sure to show him how to maintain and care for his beard in between visits--how to trim it, condition, and keep it soft with some coconut or almond oil.

Guys, here's a great DIY recipe for keeping your beard soft and in shape:

  • In your bottle, add 1/2 oz of jojoba oil, Marula oil (Paul Mitchell) or argan oil. If you're looking to promote growth in thinner spots, you can substitute castor oil.

  • Add 1/4 oz of sweet almond oil or coconut oil (liquid). For a subtle fragrance add 5-8 drops of cedar wood, sandalwood vanilla, or lavender essential oils. Feel free to mix the scents together!

  • Place the cap on tightly and shake well.

  • Put a few drops in your hand, apply and massage into the beard and onto the cheeks.

This makes a great love gift, either for the man in your life or some self-love!
